City of Sherrill Community Activity Center Notice

Beginning Friday March 2

 

 Due to increased usage of the CAC, on Fridays and Saturdays after 6:30pm children younger than 18 must be with an adult at all times when they are at the CAC unless they are using the facility for a function such as bowling, pool, youth center or another scheduled function.  If children are attending Youth Center they must sign in and generally remain in the areas assigned to Youth Center that evening.  Children who are not with an adult or using the CAC for a function will be asked to leave or to call someone to pick them up. 

    

Open Gym:  The gym at the CAC can be used for basketball depending on availability. Sherrill residents must sign out basketballs.  Children 15 and under must be supervised by a parent or guardian.  Fees:  $3 per person for ½ court use, one hour maximum or $24 for full court use, 8 people minimum, one hour maximum  Please see the flyer below or call (315) 363-6525 for more details and availability.

 

Adult Volleyball League:  Volleyball teams are forming at the CAC.  Games will be Thursday nights.  Please call Sara Getman, Recreation Supervisor, (315) 363-6525 for more information.

  

Community Coffee Hour: The CAC is open for coffee weekday mornings from 8:00am-11:00am.  Stop in and see your neighbors!

 

Oneida County Office for the Aging at the CAC:  Please stop by the first Wednesday of every month at 10:30am.  The office is able to provide people ages 60 and over and people of any age with disabilities, with many services including: home delivered meals, personal care assistance, HEAP, food stamps, medicare assistance, medical transportation, caregiver support, and more. 

 

Fiber Fans CNY at the CAC:  Join this group on Monday nights, 5:30pm-8:00pm for a little fiber fun- knitting, crocheting, felting, weaving, spinning, etc.  Everyone is welcome!

 

CAC Craft and Chat Group:  Come join this group the first and third Wednesday of each month, 11:00am-1:00pm, to knit, sew, or create any other craft.  Buy lunch at the CAC or bring your own. All are welcome!

 

Indoor Walking in the CAC Gym: Come use the gym at the CAC to walk. Please call or check the website for hours, as they may vary depending on other activities.

 

Tot Time: This is a self-monitored program for parents to bring their children, ages 6 and younger, for indoor play in the gym, Monday-Friday 9:30am-12:00pm. 

 

Adult Exercise Classes: Please contact the instructors for fees, to register, and for more information.

Senior Bowling Discount:  Wednesdays, 11:00am-2:00pm, Bowl for $1.50 per game!

 

Running Group: The Sherrill running group will meet at the CAC Saturday mornings for group runs.  Distance and pace will vary depending on runners.  Email sgetman@sherrillny.org for details about this group.

 

Open Bowling Hours:  Every other Friday 6:00pm-11:00pm/9:15pm-11:00pm, Saturdays, 1:30pm-5:00pm and 9:00pm-11:00pm, Sundays 12:00pm-5:00pm.  When school is closed for vacations or snow days there will usually be open bowling from 12:00pm-5:00pm.  Please call for updates.  

 

Youth Center:  Youth Center is open to children from Sherrill and Vernon in grades 4-6 Monday & Tuesday from 6:00pm-9:00pm, and grades 7-12 Friday & Saturday from 6:30pm-10:30pm. All children are required to show an ID card, attainable after filling out paperwork.  Paperwork is available at City Hall or the Youth Center and may be picked up ahead of time. Children who are attending Youth Center at the CAC must sign in.  Parents, please make sure your children are signing in to Youth Center each night they attend. Skateboarders:  It was great to see skateboarders enjoying the skate park.  The City of Sherrill is planning for next season and welcomes feedback from residents about the park.  Please email suggestions and comments to sgetman@sherrillny.org.

 

Oneida County Rabies Clinic:  There will be a rabies clinic at the CAC on February 22 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  All cats, dogs and ferrets three months or older must be vaccinated even if they stay indoors.  Every dog and cat needs two rabies vaccinations one year apart.  After that they need one every three years in order to receive a three year certificate.  Prior proof of vaccination must be shown.  Ferrets must be vaccinated every year.  Dogs should be on a leash and cats and ferrets should be in a carrier or pillowcase.  No exams will be given.  A $10 donation per pet is suggested to defray costs.  For additional information please call (315) 798-5064.

 

Winter Lectures at the CAC:  Join us for these free lectures upstairs at the CAC.  Wednesday January 25, 6:30pm, Oneida County Office For The Aging presents An Overview of Services- Come learn about services in the area for yourself or a loved one, Wednesday February 22, 6:30pm, Colleen Bennett, KEYS Program Founder presents a workshop- Music Heals, Wednesday February 29, 6:30pm, Joe Shay, City of Sherrill Mayor 2002-2012 will share stories and pictures of his travels, Wednesday March 7, 6:30pm, Walt Lang presents, A Tale of Two Churches, the story of the beginnings of Kenwood Church and Plymouth Church.  If you are interested in being a volunteer guest lecturer please contact Sara Getman, 363-6525.

 

City of Sherrill Community Activity Center Pool Tournament and Bowling Events:  The City of Sherrill Community Activity Center will host a nine ball, race to four, double elimination, pool tournament Wednesday March 7 at 6:30pm.  The CAC will also hold bowling trifecta nights Thursday March 22 and Thursday March 29, and the CAC Singles Tournament Thursday April 12-Saturday April 14.  Please check the website www.sherrillny.org or call (315) 363-6525 for information or to register.
