SUMMER CONCERT SERIES
Submitted by lray on Tue, 06/23/2009 - 11:21
Another summer of gr-r-r-reat music at Reilly-Mumford Memorial Park has arrived. The concert series begins on Tuesday, June 23rd and runs through Tuesday, August 25th. All Tuesday concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs and in case of light rain showers, bring your umbrella. In the event of heavy rain, the concert will be moved to the City’s CAC gym.
July 7th – “Bart and Kevin” – Don’t pay attention to the duo on stage but rather to your family around you, says these western New York entertainers. Their all-ages friendly songs make the background for a perfect family night out. Kids can enjoy free ice cream compliments of the Gorman Foundation at this concert.
July 14th – “Julie Crawford” – Bringing a Nashville-style show to the Sherrill gazebo stage, Julie Crawford takes the audience away to the country music capital with her top-notch performance.
July 21st – “George Wesley” – Summer in a far away exotic locale comes to Sherrill as the sounds of reggae make their debut at the Reilly-Mumford Memorial Park.
July 28th – “The Sal Alberico Big Band” – Recalling the music of the 40s, this group brings to the stage the big band, swing, and Latin sounds of times gone by.
August 4th – “Fab Cats” – The days of the British Invasion of the 60s will be revisited by these musicians, taking us back to summers of flower power and love.
August 11th – “Easy Money” – This brand-new big band does “a little bit of everything,” from Count Basie and Duke Ellington to more modern pop music.
August 18th – “Jasiu Klocek and the Salt City Brass” – Put on your dancing shoes for this brass band, as they get the crowd moving with their polkas, swing, and Latin music.
August 25th – “Matt Chase and Thunder Canyon” – The season comes to a thunderous end with the modern country and oldies rock ‘n’ roll of these perennial Sherrill stars, and make sure you stay to the end for their heartfelt patriotic tribute.
Remember to mark your calendar for the City’s annual fabulous fireworks display over the gazebo on Saturday July 25th (July 26th in case of inclement weather). This year the display will be preceded by a concert with “Small Town Big Band”. Featuring mostly big band era music plus more recent tunes done in a big band style, this 15-piece group features members from all walks of life who have a mutual enjoyment of creating music together. Please note that this Fireworks concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
Special Thanks – To the Gorman Foundation – Their generosity has allowed for an expanded concert series this year including some new regional acts.
